Chico High School (CHS) Foundation Semi-Annual Newsletter

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Fifty-two varsity head coaches, three hundred alumni, and friends who attended the Coaches' Reunion dinner on Saturday, August 21enjoyed many hugs and even more smiles together! The CHS Foundation board extends its sincere appreciation to the coaches, donors, alumni and guests for making the dinner such a resounding success and for supporting the CHS athletic department. Pictures can be viewed on the CHSF facebook page.

On Friday, August 20th, a recognition wall listing the names of 249 former and current varsity head coaches, athletic directors, and principals was revealed and celebrated at a luncheon in the gymnasium. On one side of the gymnasium has all the championship banners won since 1902. Now, on the opposite side are 12 plaques naming the people who held leadership positions to help make it happen! Pictures can be viewed on the CHSF facebook page.

The CHS Foundation board will donate proceeds to the newly established Athletic Endowment Fund. Interest monies will be spent annually to support coaches and athletes. Please consider adding to this fund on an annual basis. You can invest on-line through a pay-pal system, or by writing a check to the North Valley Community Foundation, 3120 Cohasset Road, Suite 8, Chico, Ca. 95973.

Last December the CHSF board donated $6,200 to the Industrial Technology department for the purchases of new state-of-the art computers. The money was raised though the sale of a children's playhouse.

A special note of appreciation to an anonymous donor who contributed $17,200 in August to support two students who are or will be attending the engineering program at CSU, Chico. This is the seventh time our most generous donor has sent a $12,000 check, or more, to the CHS Foundation to support students studying in engineering.

In May, the board awarded over $20,000 in scholarship grants to graduating seniors. The board also allocated $1,500 in mini-grants to many teachers to purchase equipment and instructional materials.

Over the past four years, $13,000 has been allocated to CHS teachers in the form of mini-grants through the Centennial Fund.

This year we welcomed Tim Colbie '82, Mike Halldorson, '61, and Emma Jessee, '96 as new board members. Our thirteen member board meets monthly in the Learning Change conference room on 2nd street in downtown Chico.

CHS Foundation now manages twenty-eight different endowment funds, each of which has a defined purpose. The current overall asset value of our portfolio is $275,000. You can find a description of each fund's purpose on the CHS Foundation website: chicohigh.org and click the support link at the top of the home page. Please consider adding to one or more of these funds; or better yet, creating a new fund in your name, or that of your family/ loved one.

Please read the letter from Roger Williams: “So What Lies in Sow What.

The CHS Foundation is an Annie B. participant. Monies received prior to October 1, 2010, will receive an additional percentage grant increase estimated to be in the five to ten percent range this year. The North Valley Community Foundation will annouce the specific percentage in mid-October.

Again, thank you so much for your support of the students and staff at your alma mater, of the school your children attended. Your support is highly valued, much needed, and most appreciated!
